At this year’s Long Night of Sciences, participants once again had the opportunity to gain an extensive insight into the diverse research areas of EmpkinS. Just to name a few highlights: There was a lecture on the topic of „The Psychology Behind Chronic Back Pain,“ as well as the opportunity for attendees to try out the back pain simulation vest, Gert, themselves. The exhibition „Ethics of Virtual Realities“ showcased the questions: What happens when virtual experiences feel real? Can VR worlds promote empathy, or do they mislead us? In the hands-on activities „Biomechanical Motion Analysis and Simulation“ and „Fascination of Motion: Measurement, Analysis, and Control,“ participants learned how to observe the human musculoskeletal system while a person is in motion. Additionally, they explored methods for analyzing the intricacies of human movement. The KMotion Lab provided insights into digital gait and movement patterns in neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis. In addition, there was also an extensive program for children and aspiring young scientists, including „Robotics for Beginners: Toothbrush Robots Gone Wild“ and „The Power of a Smile“.
